The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer is responsible for managing the day-to-day environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance functions to ensure plant operations are conducted in conformance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, permits and regulations while maximizing the use of industry best practices.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the day-to-day environmental, health & safety (EH&S) compliance requirements of applicable permits, programs, policies, and regulations.

  • Work with leaders and employees to build a proactive EH&S culture, where employees and supervision are engaged in working safely every day.

  • Manage and perform the planning, training, auditing, reporting and recordkeeping requirements for all EH&S compliance programs.

  • Act as the primary point of contact and coordinator for concerns or issues pertaining to EH&S.

  • Proactively stay current with any changes or updates to regulatory compliance, and ensure company policies and procedures are updated as needed.

  • Respond to and coordinate the response for urgent EH&S situations.

  • Lead and conduct incident investigations in a timely manner, and use root cause analysis to identify corrective actions that remove hazards from the workplace.

  • Conduct data analysis, communicate safety performance metrics and goals for operations, and regularly track and report.

  • Perform inspections as it relates to storm water, waste water, solid waste, industrial hygiene, air, etc.

  • Help manage and oversee 5S projects including development, implementation, and auditing.

  • Perform other miscellaneous EH&S duties as assigned.

Expected Areas of Competence (KSAs)

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with wide variety of stakeholders (operators, management, engineering, regulators, etc.)
  • Proficient MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); proven ability to learn software applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work without close supervision, produce quality work and handle periodic special projects independently, while maintaining focus and sense of urgency in an environment with frequent interruptions and a high level varied activity
  • General knowledge of environmental regulations and best management practices
  • Demonstrated ability to compile reports from various spreadsheets and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work within mandatory time frames
  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem solving skills, able to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines
  • Critical thinking skills in order to analyze information and data and suggest alternative solutions to problems

Education and Experience Requirements

  • S. Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering or related field
  • Minimum (2-4) years of Environmental, Health and Safety experience

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must actively engage in safe working practices
  • Must be able to tolerate hot working conditions and loud environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's operations.

Travel Requirements

Little to no travel is anticipated with this position
